While the mercury is beginning to rise and the birds are starting to sing again I'm looking forward to dead leaves and scratchy sweaters.

I'm often asked to adapt an existing book cover design for catalogue use but, this time I was given the chance to come up with something new.

Just waiting to hear back from the author but, these are the two comps I submitted for Sky Gilbert's latest collection of funny, explicit and personal poetry. To many, Sky needs no introduction. As you can see, with these comps I aimed one shot to the body and one shot to the head, much like the poetry itself.

Addendum: Luckily, the client didn't buy the silhouette cover below as I recently realized it's eerily close to this one, right down to the typeface, too. http://www.bookcoverarchive.com/book/the_error_world

There is certainly no shortage of books on the environment these days. The challenge I faced with this project was packaging the title without using the usual imagery you find on books of this nature. Luckily, thanks to global warming, some recent mild weather gave me the chance to run out and shoot this in my back yard. I sent a bunch of comps through for consideration but, this one is my pick of the litter (insert rimshot).
